Man chopped during argument in St Augustine

A 43-year-old man is dead after he was chopped during an incident in St Augustine on Saturday night.

Ganesh Ramkissoon, of Dhania Street, Streatham Lodge Road, St. Augustine, was at his home around 8pm, when he got into a verbal altercation with a 39-year-old man of the same address.

The argument is said to have involved a plate that was broken a few days ago.

The man reportedly returned to his apartment to avoid any further confrontation. But, moments later, there was a banging on his door and someone shouting ‘Police!”

The man told police that he became fearful and armed himself with a cutlass before opening the door.
When he did, he was met by Ramkissoon who tried to cuff him. The man said he retaliated by swinging the cutlass, chopping Ramkissoon across the left shoulder.

Ramkissoon then ran into the direction of his own apartment which is located on the same compound where he collapsed.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they met Ramkissoon in the yard lying on the ground, bleeding from the chop wound. He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

His attacker was detained.
