Man Charged With Grievous Bodily Harm Granted $200,000 Bail

A 53-year-old man was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with a surety when he appeared virtually before Magistrate Cheron Raphael at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court, on April 4th, 2022, charged with grievous bodily harm.

As part of the bail condition the accused is required to stay 100 feet away from the victim, and was ordered to have no communication directly or indirectly with her.

According to a police report, on April 2nd, 2022 a woman and a man had an argument, during which it was alleged that the man struck the woman with an object, which resulted in the victim sustaining injuries to her forehead.

WPC Ramsaran of the Eastern Division Gender Based Violence Unit conducted an investigation into the matter, which resulted in the arrest of a man on April 2nd.

The accused is expected to reappear at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court on April 29th, 2022.

Investigations were supervised by Acting Woman Superintendent Claire Guy- Alleyne, and Inspector Women Inspector Bacchus of the Gender Based Violence Unit.
