Man avoids arrest by slitting throat

A 38-year-old Erin fisherman slit his throat after he was served with a maintenance warrant for his arrest.

According to police reports, officers of the South Western Division went to the man’s house in St. Francis Village to serve him a warrant. After they identified themselves and the purpose of their visit, the man said, “I can’t take that kind of lock-up tonight.” The officers then heard a loud noise. They forced their way into the house and called out to the man. When they got no response, they searched the house and found the man on the ground gasping. There was a knife with blood near to his body. The man was alone in the house. He was taken to the Siparia District Health Facility and transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital.

He was treated for his injuries.
