Man arrested after beating PH Taxi Driver and stealing car

Officers of the Northern Division Task Force Area East (NDTF) and the La Horquetta CID recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a suspect for also beating the owner.

The 38-year-old PH taxi Driver was beaten at gunpoint, tied up, and placed in the trunk of his white Nissan Almera after picking up two passengers at St Helena Junction. The men requested to be taken to Mandela Drive, Las Lomas, and on arrival at the location, committed the offences.

The driver managed to escape and placed a call to E999. Officers of the NDTF observed the vehicle proceeding north along the Tumpuna Road South and gave chase, pursuing the vehicle onto the Churchill Roosevelt Highway and into Santa Rosa Heights.

Upon reaching Santa Rosa Heights, the suspects exited the vehicle and ran along Lime Boulevard in an attempt to evade the officers. One suspect, the driver, was subsequently detained by the officers while the other suspect escaped.

The vehicle was recovered and taken to the La Horquetta Police Station to be processed.
PC Williams of the La Horquetta CID is continuing investigations.
