Long lines and chaos at Health Centres as walk-ins show up for vaccines

Following the call by the Ministry of Health for citizens to walk-in from today to receive their first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine, health centres across the country were inundated with long lines and overcrowding.

The ‘first-come-first-served’ system at health centres, is eligible only for people over 60 years of age, and people under 60 years of age with NCDs.

However, there are reports that some may not be following this criteria, having just heard “walk-in”.

In Arouca, izzso was informed that when the hundreds turned up from as early as 6am for their inoculation, they were told to return at 1pm, because clinic started at 8am. Security guards were also struggling with the lack of social distancing.

In Diego Martin lines extended all the way around the corner from the health centre for almost a mile.

Here is a look at the lines in some areas, from Diego Martin to Couva to Carenage.
