LISTEN: Griffith slams PM’s decision to remove Columbus ships from Coat as Arms

NTA leader, Gary Griffith has criticised the Prime Minister for his sudden proposal to remove the three ships of Christopher Columbus from this country’s Coat of Arms and replace them with the national instrument, the steelpan.

Rowley made the announcement during PNM’s Convention at NAPA yesterday.

However, Griffith, in a social media post this morning, said instead of prioritising the removal of these three ships, Dr Keith Rowley should instead be concerned that he is the captain of the sinking ship known as the TT Titanic, with lives being lost daily and citizens jumping overboard in desperation.

Griffith said this “out of the blue” call by the PM will not make any difference to the standard of living of citizens in this country and will cost us “tens upon tens of millions of dollars.”

In fact, he said, such a change will add to the financial burden as we are unable to equate income with expenditure.

Griffith said if Rowley is so bitter about our colonial history then what will be his next step? He asked if the PM would be willing to remove the country from the Commonwealth next.

Griffith believes it is simply a distraction from the current major issues.
