Library patron returns VHS tape 19 years later

In the spirit of throwback Thursday…officials at a Kansas library received an unusual surprise last week when a patron returned a VHS tape that had been checked out 19 years ago.

However the employees had no idea what to do with it as some of them had never watched a VHS tape added to which, as one official noted, they no longer even have VHS tapes in the resource library.

The Johnson County Central Resource Library said the tape, a Russian Oscar winning film titled “Burnt by the Sun” was checked out on a 7-day loan back in 2003.

It is unclear whether the patron will be fined for the return.

The library imposes a 30-cent-per-day fine on late materials, but the fees are capped at $6 per item.
