Lecturer detained for shooting at common-law wife

A lecturer with the UWI open campus has been arrested for shooting at his common-law wife at their Tunapuna home on Saturday.

Reports are that the 52-year-old man had a dispute with his 42-year-old common law wife, of seven years, during the period of the curfew on Saturday.

The woman told police that when the exchange became heated, the man went and retrieved his licensed firearm, pointed it at her and then fired one shot.
However, she was not injured.

A report was made and two officers went to the house on Fairley Street around 10.30am.
They arrested the lecturer and took him to the Tunapuna Police Station.

Officers recovered one spent shell at the scene.
