Lack of medals cause for concern…but no reason to panic says former TTOC head

Former TTOC President Brian Lewis believes the lack of medals at the Championships should be cause for concern but not a reason to panic.

He explained his thoughts on the country’s recent showing while speaking this morning with News Power Now.

Mr Lewis said this is obviously a transition period for the country’s track and field program.

He added however, that with the necessary reviews and adjustments, improvements can be attained.

Lewis, who now serves as President of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC), said he expects the athletes to return a better medal haul at the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

News Power Now also contacted current TTOC President Diane Henderson.

She was unable to speak at the time but messaged us via Whatsapp.

She confirmed that the performances at the recently concluded World Championships will be analyzed as the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham approaches.

She pointed to the season’s best time for the men 4x400m relay team, noting that it augers well for the work that they are doing and going into Commonwealth games.

Mrs Henderson added that all athletes are ready and will do the necessary recovery with a view to improving on their performances.

She said they are eager to do better and gave the commitment that the TTOC will stand by them.
