Kobe Bryant’s widow receives $16m over gruesome crash scene photos

Kobe Bryant’s widow has been awarded $16m in damages over leaked photos of the helicopter crash that killed the basketballer and his daughter 2 years ago.

Mrs Bryant’s husband Kobe Bryant, 13 year old daughter Gianna, and six family friends died when their helicopter crashed in California in January 2020.

Vanessa Bryant said she had panic attacks after learning images taken at the scene by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters had been shared.

Jurors were told that police officers and firefighters used their cell phones to take photos at the accident site and then showed the photos to people at a bar.

The county must pay Mrs Bryant for emotional distress.

Co-plaintiff Christopher Chester will be paid $15m.

Mr Chester lost his wife Sarah and daughter Payton in the crash.
