Kangaloo presents silk to 16 attorneys

Her Excellency, President Christine Carla Kangaloo presented instruments of appointment to thirteen attorneys, elevating them to the rank of Senior Counsel on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the President’s House.

The presentations were made on the advice of Prime Minister Dr.Keith Rowley.

During the presentation ceremony, Kangaloo delivered remarks, urging the newly appointed Senior Counsels to, “continue to provide guidance and assistance to all young practitioners and those who have chosen to study the law.

She said: “This is your solemn duty as leaders. I have no doubt that you understand the enormity of it and that you are all up to the responsibility.”

Young and attorneys Justin Phelps and Prakash Deonarine were out of the country.

Kangaloo said the title of Senior Counsel is granted to attorneys of eminent standing who apply for the title, and are selected, following a process guided by the terms contained in the 15th February 1964 edition of the Trinidad and Tobago Gazette, known as ‘Order No. 282 of 1964’.

The Attorney General then consults on that list with the Chief Justice, and such other persons as he considers necessary.
