Kamla to PM: Break silence on Nelson’s indemnity agreement!

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is calling on the Prime Minister to tell the nation if he knew about the indemnity agreement between the Office of the Attorney General and King’s Counsel Vincent Nelson.

During his press conference yesterday Minister Faris Al-Rawi, who was the Attorney General in 2017 when the agreement was entered into with Nelson, refused to say if the Prime Minister approved the deal.

Persad Bissessar issued a release following the press conference.

She said Dr Keith Rowley must reveal if he was part of this “malicious conspiracy.”

One of the main reasons for the case against Ramdeen and Ramlogan being discontinued by the DPP was due to the unwillingness of Nelson to testify against the two, before his lawsuit over the alleged breach of an agreement with Al-Rawi is settled.

An indemnity agreement with Nelson was sought in order to secure him as a witness in the matter.

Persad-Bissessar yesterday accused Al-Rawi of being the “chief architect of the Nelson scandal”, noting it has a risk exposure of $200 million and $150 million, which represents Nelson’s claim against the State.

She also called on the State’s attorneys in the matter, Gilbert Peterson and Douglas Mendes, to provide the legal advice they gave to the then-AG.
