Kamla: Gas prices will negatively impact life; could lead to riots

The increase in gas prices will significantly affect the quality of life for people in Trinidad and Tobago and this may lead to the riots the Finance Minister boasted wouldn’t happen the last time gas prices were raised.

This is according to Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar.

The prices of premium and super gasoline and kerosene are increased by one dollar per litre.

Diesel is now 50 cents more per litre.

The new prices are premium gasoline $7.75 cents a litre, super gasoline $6.97 cents a litre, diesel $4.41 cents a litre and kerosene $4.50 cents a litre.

The cost of LPG will remain fixed at 21 dollars for a 20 pound cylinder of cooking gas for domestic customers.

Speaking at a media conference after the Budget presentation Persad – Bissessar said that this will now have a domino effect.

She said the Government continues to ignore the cries of the citizens.
