Opposition leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar has extended Ramadan greeting to the Muslim community.
She said: As the Muslim community observes the Holy month of Ramadan, I would like to wish them a prayerful, enriching and enlightening period of devotion that brings them closer to their faith as they undertake one of the key pillars of Islam.
Great spiritual upliftment as it pertains to the significance of Ramadan can be found in the Quran which tells us that “Oh, you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may learn piety and righteousness”. In essence, our Muslim brothers and sisters will engage in a period in which their actions of sacrifice, prayer and introspection should inspire us all as these represent actions that are pertinent to righteousness.
At a time when the turmoil of the prevailing pandemic has weakened the wills of some and burdened the circumstances of many, the month of Ramadan teaches us that prayerful supplication and sacrifice will bring us in line with the will and teachings of Allah, forming the foundation of strength needed to defeat these unprecedented difficulties.
As our Muslim friends observe this Holy month, we are reminded that it was in the month of Ramadan the Quran was revealed. It is on that premise great solace is found as these the Holy verses are often used to provide the spiritual guidance which our world needs at this time.
