Shabaka Kambon Director of the Caribbean Freedom Project says that Governments including here in Trinidad and Tobago must remove monuments that glorify racism and white supremacy and celebrate colonial violence.
Kambon who was a guest on the Power Breakfast Show this morning said that the group even wrote a pre-action protocol letter to be delivered to the Government in an effort to have monuments of this kind permanently removed.
He said that he was not surprised with the recent announcement by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley about changes to the National Coat of Arms.
He stated that this was necessary in order to remove the stain of colonialism left by the likes of Christopher Columbus.
Kambon insisted that such a change was implicitly necessary to usher in the winds of change and right the wrongs that have stained T&T’s history.
