Juvenile among 5 men detained for car theft; stolen vehicle recovered

A blue Nissan Almera reported stolen in Woodbrook early Saturday morning was recovered in less than 20 minutes due to the quick response and diligent work of officers. Five males including a juvenile, all from Calvary Hill, Arima, were also arrested.

According to a police report, the car was reported stolen around 3:15 am today after being parked along Rosalino Street in the vicinity of Seigert Square around 12 am this morning.

Officers making checks for the vehicle in the area proceeded to Tragarete Road near the Queen’s Park Oval after receiving an alert from the Command Centre. The stolen vehicle was found crashed onto the pavement with the battery missing from it.

Intelligence-led policing resulted in officers obtaining information regarding the description of the suspects as well as their getaway vehicle, a silver Aqua which had been allegedly seen on Murray Street near a commercial bank in the area.

Officers proceeded to the location where they intercepted the vehicle. A car battery was allegedly found in the trunk. Car breaking implements were also allegedly recovered from the vehicle.

The occupants, four men, and one juvenile, were arrested with the assistance of officers from the Central Police Station and the Capital City Patrol Unit and taken to the Woodbrook Police Station along with both vehicles.
