Justice Gobin to rule on the FIFA vs TTFA matter on Tuesday

Madame Justice Carol Gobin will deliver her ruling on the TTFA/FIFA matter on Tuesday.

Justice Gobin will decide if FIFA’s decision to remove the William Wallace-led executive as the head of the local association and appoint a normalisation committee to rule, violated any local laws.

At a virtual high court hearing on Friday, FIFA’s legal team led by Christopher Hamel-Smith presented a plea to have the matter adjourned until after October 19 when another substantive hearing is due.

FIFA’s legal team also argued that since FIFA’s normalisation committee was disbanded, there was no need for the proceedings to rule on whether or not FIFA was fair in appointing such a committee back in March.

But Justice Gobin denied the plea although the legal team suggested that the TTFA executive can resume its duties of managing local football.

She was also concerned about FIFA’s claim that it would not recognise the ruling of the TT High Court, but would only acknowledge the Robert Hadad Group as the legitimate body to manage football in T&T.

TTFA’s legal team led by Dr. Emir Crowne said that FIFA was operating with a lack of procedural fairness in dealing with the TTFA, as it forcibly wanted to change the Association’s constitution as a precondition for the lifting of the suspension.

Justice Gobin will deliver her ruling at 3:00p.m.
