Juge orders man out of family home after abusing wife and child

A 43-year-old man was ordered out of his family home after appearing virtually before a Chaguanas Magistrate on Monday, charged with choking his common-law wife and cruelty to her son.

The accused, who was also ordered to stay 100 metres away from the woman and boy, was given the conditions as part of his bail which was set at $15,000 with a surety.

He is expected to reappear before the court on August 15th to answer the charges.

He was charged on July 15th by WPC Cabie of the Central Division Gender-Based Violence Unit following a report made at the Cunupia Police Station.

According to police reports, at 7 pm on January 19th, 2022, a woman was at her home when a male relative, who was allegedly intoxicated, made several allegations about her.

Police were told that an argument ensued during which the accused allegedly dealt the woman several blows about her body.

The woman, who was holding her son at that time later observed blood covering his mouth. However, the man continued the attack.

An investigation was subsequently launched following which the man was charged with the offences.
