John: Opposition should have been consulted on Senators speaking time

Opposition Senator, Jearleen John, says the government should have consulted with members of the opposition and the independent bench on making adjustments to the speaking time of senators.

Contributing to the Private Motion, speaking time of Senators this afternoon, the Opposition Senator said the way in which the move was carried out is the area of concern.

Independent Senator, Dr Maria Dillon Remy, in giving her input to the debate said the COVID-19 pandemic is still a reality and accepts appropriate adjustments must be made even at the parliament level.

Meanwhile, Opposition Senator, Wade Mark, who piloted the motion, reviewed some of the practices which have been adopted in other countries on this said issues.
