The lack of support from Trinidad and Tobago fans for athletes especially those representing them at major sporting events, like the recently concluded Olympics in Paris, is disappointing.
This is according to Jereem “The Dream” Richards who shared his thoughts on the Power Breakfast Show this morning.
Richards was responding to negative comments from local fans who criticised the athletes’ inability to secure medals at the Paris Olympics.
He said that a lot of hard work goes into preparing for the event and this doesn’t seem to be taken into consideration.
He also lamented the fact that support seems to be lacking for the athletes even at smaller events.
Richards said that he gave everything on the track in the finals at the Olympic Games in Paris recently.
He said he had an injury last year but he was able to use it to fuel his push to win.
He revealed that he did all he could in the race and is disappointed to have been so close to a medal (1/400th of a second) and not receive one.
Richards said that there is a vast difference between the support given to local cricket and football and track and field.
He opined that the fans come out in their numbers to attend the former because of the party like atmosphere which is very different to that of track and field.
He disclosed he leaves this Sunday for Europe Lausanne Switzerland to run in the Diamond League.
