Jehlano Romney fled to Venezuela fearing for his life

As investigations continue into the death of Jehlano Romney, there are now allegations that he was denied witness protection from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

Christon J Williams, the attorney for the murdered state witness, revealed that Romney had reached out to State organisations for witness protection but he had not been even placed in a safe environment.

Romney was the State’s main witness in the PC Clarence Gilkes shooting death for which 2 police officers were charged.

Responding to the accusations this morning Acting Commissioner of Police McDonald Jacob said that police protection was offered to 30-year-old Romney twice and he refused on both occasions.

Speaking on Power 102 Digital’s Power Breakfast Show this morning the CoP stopped short of calling the Attorney a liar, however he said that he had every confidence in his team and the information they gave to him concerning Romney.

Speaking on Power 102 Digital shortly afterwards, Williams however claimed Romney fled to Venezuela fearing for his life and only returned because he thought he would be protected.
