Investigation Into Maternal Death In Tobago Concluded

Doctors, nurses, midwives and other staff involved did everything possible to save Nadea Shanghie’s life.

The staff of the Tobago Regional Health Authority observed all the appropriate clinical pathways in providing emergency care.

These are the findings coming out of the preliminary investigation done into the deaths of Shanghie and her baby Zeniah.

Twenty-seven-year-old Shanghie, was buried on Saturday.

The Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection and the Tobago Regional Health Authority conducted the investigation.

It was revealed as part of the Quality Management system in place at the TRHA, following an incident of this nature, a meeting was held with the family together with her private doctor.

Both the division and the TRHA said Shanghie was not just a daughter, a sister, a cousin and a friend; she was a member of the TRHA family as a Clerical Assistant at the Speyside Health Centre.
