“Happy International Women’s Day to all of Trinidad and Tobago – both Women and Men, Girls and Boys,” says Mrs Sharon Rowley.
Dr. Keith Rowley took to his social media platform so to deliver a message to the nation from wife, Mrs Sharon Rowley, as the world celebrates International Women’s Day.
Mrs. Rowley said “today, we are now ten years away from 2030 – the initial goal set by the United Nations for achieving gender equality.”
“Last year we called for ‘Balance for Better’ this year we say “Each for Equal. These must not be simply hashtags. We must each, both men and women in Trinidad and Tobago, make a conscious effort to continue to make a difference. Let us not rest on our laurels. We have a female President, a female Speaker of the House of Representatives, a female President of the Senate, female Government Ministers and heads of organisations.
We have made significant progress but we can do more.
All of us women must be treated equally. Our 24-hour jobs in and out of the home must be shared with our male counterparts, we must improve our skills shortage in the areas of engineering and technical talent and we must bring an end to the rampant domestic violence which pervades our society.
As a collective force we are empowered to make a change.
We can make it happen.
