Interim pension payment of $3,500 for TTPS and TTDF retirees

The Finance Minister has announced that officers who are set to retire from the T&T Police Service and T&T Defence Force will be getting an interim pension payment of $3,500 a month while their pension records are being collated and processed.

Colm Imbert made the announcement in Parliament yesterday, as he piloted a second Finance Bill, which will implement the remaining measures in the 2023 Budget.

He said: “Once it’s deemed that a person will be eligible for a pension but their records are still being collated, that person will get the minimum pension of $3,500 a month.”

“This offers the payment of a minimum amount to a retired officer until all required documents and records are collected, reviewed and audited to process their full pension benefits.”

Imbert added it was common knowledge that the system relative to the processing and payment of pension benefits to recently retired public officers is “not the most efficient.”

“But in the interim, it is thought that there’s need to bring some measure of relief to retired officers of the TTPS and TTDF,” he said.
