Insurance Companies To Honour Claims For Covid19 Treatment At Private Medical Facilities

The Members of the Association of Trinidad and Tobago Insurance Companies offering health and medical coverage have agreed to the inclusion of claims for the treatment of Covid-19 at private medical facilities.

In a statement today ATTIC noted that claims are subject to the individual terms, conditions and deductibles of each Insurer’s policy contract.

It added that reimbursements will be made in accordance with the benefits allowed in your health contract and will include the application of the usual Reasonable & Customary charges on COVID-19 treatment.

ATTIC reminded that the following criteria must be met in order for a policyholder to be reimbursed for the cost of a “test” for COVID-19:

  • The policyholder must be symptomatic and must have a referral by a doctor to have the test done
  • The policyholder is either hospitalized or has an approved medical procedure and the COVID-19 test is a requirement by that facility prior to admission
  • The test must be sent to an approved medical lab for COVID-19 testing as indicated in the Ministry of Health regulations

It noted, however, it noted that these conditions for reimbursement of COVID-19 treatment are subject to change.

Policyholders are asked to call their respective Insurer to discuss the actual specific requirements and terms of their policy contract.
