Injured suspect escapes after shooting at officer

A 19-year old man was arrested and a firearm and quantity of ammunition seized by officers following a police-involved shooting incident, which occurred in the Arouca district early Sunday morning.

Around 2:50a.m, officers conducted an Operation Strike Back Exercise in the area when they received information about men with firearms at a party in the Arouca district.

Upon arriving at the location, two male suspects ran off and the officers gave chase.

One of the men then turned and pointed a firearm in the direction of the officers, who in accordance with the Use of Force policy shot at him. The gunman escaped by jumping over a wall.

The second suspect, the 19-year-old, was held a short distance away. When officers searched him, they found one Beretta pistol fitted with a magazine loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.

The search continues for the second suspect.

The exercise was conducted by officers of the Northern Division Task Force, Area Central.

Investigations are ongoing.
