Indarsingh claims government already has a bidder for POS Port; Works Minister says No

Has government already found a bidder for the Port of Port of Spain?

Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh seems to have intel that they do.

Speaking in the House, Indarsingh said he’s heard through the “grapevine,” that government has already found a bidder in the form of a Chinese entity named Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL).

A Google search of the company said that it is a Hong Kong based container shipping and logistics service company with offices in 70 countries.

Indarsingh called on the Minister of Finance or the Minister of Works and Transport to bravely provide the answer.

He said if it was a done deal, it would be “a total disrespect by the Government” to announce it in the budget speech without first telling the port’s majority-recognised union, the Seamen and Waterfront Workers Trade Union.

Meanwhile, Works Minister Rohan Sinanan has denied the claims by Indarsingh that the Government has entered into some agreement with a Chinese firm for the Port of Port of Spain.

In a Newsday interview Sinanan said, “If Rudy Indarsingh has that information, he has more information than I have. You should ask him for that. I have no information or no knowledge of what he said.”
