Government is just interested in getting the facts relating to the Auditor General submission to Parliament a report on last year’s public financial accounts which did not factor in a $2.6 billion understatement in revenue.
Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert, told the weekly post cabinet news briefing Thursday once this process is completed then appropriate follow-up action can be taken.
He said the probe cannot be binding on anyone, public servants involved or the Auditor General herself adding once the facts have been established then other things can be done.
He said the genesis to what he described as the confusion was the introduction of a new electronic cheque clearing system by the Central Bank.
Imbert said the process is not about intimidating anyone but fixing areas where lessons have been learnt.
The Acting Prime Minister made it clear there is a nation to govern and this development cannot be a distraction.
