Imbert clarifies Central Bank notice, says bank notes valid until Dec 31

Finance Minister Colm Imbert has sought to clarify a release by the Central Bank of T&T, announcing the demonetisation of the $1, $5, $10 $20 and $50 come July 1st.

In a social media post this morning he stated that the bank notes being called in are still valid until December 31st and can be redeemed indefinitely.

His comment on social media follows concerns by the public about the timing of the move, which will see citizens, from July 1st, bring in $1, $5, $10, $20 and $50 notes bearing series dates prior to 2020.

Imbert said after the notes lose validity on December 31st, they can be redeemed indefinitely, either directly by the Central Bank or in arrangements with commercial banks.
