Principal Medical Officer of Institutions, Dr. Maryam Abdool-Richards stated that the hospital occupancy is now at 34%, but the ICU occupancy has been increasing on a daily basis due to the increasing number of severely and critically ill patients being admitted to Accident & Emergency.
Speaking at todays Ministry of Health media briefing, Dr. Richards also indicated that despite a 25% increase in occupancy of ICU beds in recent times, the majority of beds in the ICU are filled and there are 5 patients per day being admitted to ICU. Dr Richards also shared that 9/10 patients admitted in the parallel health care system are not fully vaccinated.
