“I was answering a specific question!” says Nursing head as he defends ICU bed comments.

Head of the Nurses Association, Idi Stuart, is defending his comments regarding the allocation of ICU beds to vaccinated or unvaccinated patients.

A report in today’s Trinidad Express newspaper claims he said that people who are vaccinated against Covid-19 should be given priority for limited ICU beds over those who are unvaccinated.

It added that he said those who made a conscious decision not to get vaccinated would have done so believing they could beat the virus on their own…and so limited resources should go to those who made every effort to protect themselves.

However, Stuart this morning told Power 102 Digital that the comment was being taken out of context.

He explained that he was asked a specific question with a specific scenario put to him and he responded accordingly.

Stuart distanced his comments from the Nursing Association as he explained that they were his personal thoughts regarding a particular scenario.

However he assured the public that nurses will always be professional in their actions and added that there are already established procedures for dealing with decisions regarding the assignment of ICU beds to patients.
