The man who was expected to be charged with stabbing his wife, Ramragie Gobin, to death hanged himself in his prison cell on Monday morning.

Police officers found 53-year-old Chamanlal Gobin hanging in his cell at the Mon Repos Police Station in San Fernando. He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Gobin was expected to be charged with the murder of his 49-year-old wife who was found in her Ridgewood Gardens, Golconda home with stab wounds to her neck.

On November 17, Gobin called her daughter and told her that her husband was at her home although she had taken out a protection order against him. The two had separated. Her daughter called her brother and told him about it. When her son visited his mother around 4:00p.m, he found her lying in a pool of her own blood with several stab wounds to the neck.

Police led a massive search for the man who lived at Oropuche River Trace North, Barrackpore. He was charged for the murder of his wife on Friday and was expected to appear before a San Fernando Magistrate this morning to answer to the charges.

Police are continuing investigations into his death.
