Today, Friday May 8th saw longer lines and even more people seeking help from Living Waters in Port of Spain. There were long lines on both sides of Memorial Park south, with the line stretching all the way down Fredrick Street to an empty lot opposite Living Waters.
The lot also had about three hundred people lining its perimeter, while those in lines on pavements were estimated at about six hundred , with more people coming as the morning went on. There was also a heavy police presence of about eight officers, in addition to about four police vehicles trying to ensure persons maintained social distancing and directing traffic flow in the area.
Distribution of basic food items had already begun from as early as 6:00am, with some people saying that they has started lining up from as early as 4:00am. Most of the persons in the lines were Trinidad and Tobago national in need, with some Venezuelans contrary to a statement by Minister of Agriculture Lands & Fisheries, Clarance Rambharath, weeks ago when similar scenes were reported.
