Housing developer charged with fraud

A Valsayn housing developer was granted bail with surety in the sum of $250,000 when he appeared before a Master of the High Court yesterday charged with Fraud.

Mahindra Boodram, was charged with Uttering Forged Documents and Obtaining the sum of $1,647,000 and $1,665,000 by virtue of Forged Documents, when he appeared in court on Wednesday 14th August, 2024.

He was granted bail to cover both matters and instructed to report every first Saturday of each month to a police station.

The matter was postponed to October 15th, 2025.

Victims reported to police that they had entered into an agreement to purchase houses located in Cunupia from a developer. They allege they made down payments and obtained mortgage facilities from their respective financial institutions.

The developer then produced several documents including a Completion Certificate which were provided to the financial institutions. Funds were later dispersed to the developer. It was subsequently discovered that the documents were fraudulent and not issued by the authorising institution.

Investigations into the matter were spearheaded by W/Snr. Supt. Phillips, Supt. Lutchman and W/Insp. Smith, of Fraud Squad and resulted in the arrest of one suspect.

Boodram was charged with the offences by Sgt. (Ag.) Edwards, also of Fraud Squad, on August 13th, 2024.

The investigation was assisted by Cpl Murray, Cpl (Ag.) Kernahan and PCs Ramkissoon, Thomas, Jaikaran and Edwards, all of Fraud Squad.
