Hosein: “Laws alone cannot take down criminals”

“Laws alone cannot take down criminals.”
But, according to Opposition MP Saddam Hosein, a proper working criminal justice system can.

Speaking at the United National Congress’ virtual report on Monday, Hosein described the criminal justice system as “falling down” owing to a lack of political will and poor detection rate.

He called for a revamping of the criminal justice system and supporting institutions.

Hosein said “We must have a proper working criminal justice system, we must have social programmes. They have completely destroyed all of the institutions of TT and that is why we have a criminal justice system that is falling down.”
“Pass laws so that our detection rate can move from 24 per cent to upwards of 90 per cent. It is unacceptable what our detection rate is in TT. We must do better, this government has to do better and if you can’t do better you must go.”
