High Court orders the Cabinet to enable the construction of Renal Dialysis Centres at EWMSC and SFGH

The High Court has ordered the cabinet and the Minister of Health to take steps to enable the construction and operation of renal dialysis centers at Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex and San Fernando General Hospital.

This was revealed by Attorney at Law, Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj, Senior Counsel, in a media release this afternoon.

Mr Lawrence Maharaj said Justice Robin Mohammed, in handing down a 129 page written judgment at a virtual hearing, declare the failure of Health Minister and the cabinet to facilitate the operation of two full renal dialysis centers was
unlawful.

The release said the constitutional right to life of members of the Caribbean Kidney Disease Society was violated by this failure and delay.

The Judge directed the Minister and Cabinet to, within forty-two days to favorably consider his judgment, and make a decision in relation to the construction and operation of the Renal Dialysis Centers which have been on hold for about twelve years.
