Heritage Petroleum told to stop homeowners from building near pipelines

Acting Prime Minister and acting Energy Minister Colm Imbert is encouraging authorities at Heritage Petroleum Company Limited to take decisive action to bar members of the public from any construction near its pipelines.

Speaking in the Senate earlier on Tuesday, Imbert pointed to a recent oil leak which displaced 20 people in Fyzabad.
This occurred after repeated calls from the state-owned company for a home owner to desist from building near the infrastructure.

Imbert said: “I would urge heritage in the future to do their best to stop any person who is building a property or a structure on top of a pipeline in an unlawful manner.”

The minister also confirmed that a full pipeline inspection is currently ongoing.
