Health Ministry “not insisting” on masks in fetes

There is confusion now over whether the wearing of masks at large public events, such as fetes, is still mandatory following comments by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh was yesterday asked about the pictures on social media of thousands of feters at various events contravening the regulations.

Minister Deyalsingh said the Health Ministry was no longer insisting that patrons at these events wear masks.

Minister Deyalsingh also referred to those events as a private setting.

However, according to the most recent public health regulations, face masks are required in a public place which is defined as any open or enclosed place which the public is permitted to access through payment or otherwise.

Minister Deyalsingh also noted that people are tired of adhering to public measures and urged persons to do a personal assessment when attending events of this nature.
