HBI and Fraud Squad commended for solving cold case

Acting Commissioner of Police, Mc Donald Jacob, has recognized the good work of the officers from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), including the Cold Case Unit and the Fraud Squad in bringing a cold case to a close. He acknowledged the relentless efforts of the officers, resulting in the closing of several investigations namely, a 2019 double murder in Tobago.

Speaking to the media at a ceremony held at the Police Administration Building, Port of Spain, on Friday 17th June, 2022, Commissioner (Ag.) Jacob credited the current successes of the Units to a team investigative approach, which sees a deeper collaborative effort among several branches and Units.

CoP (Ag.) Jacob also placed credit on the advancements in evidence collection and analysis, namely ballistic testing, fingerprint and DNA analysis. This collaborative approach coupled with the persistence of the officers, led to the arrest and charging of two men in connection with the case.

Superintendent HBI, Rishi Singh thanked the officers for their efforts stating that success could not have happened without the drive of the investigating team. He also thanked Senior Superintendent Vena Butler (HBI) for her ability to bring her type of focus and support to the Unit, which lends to their success.
