Haynes denies political plot to remove UNC Leader

Newly-elected Tabaquite MP and Public Relations Officer for the United National Congress, Anita Haynes, has described as fake news, reports circulating that UNC leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar was being ousted from the party.

A post making its rounds on social media, states that Persad-Bissessar was being forced to resign ahead of the swearing-in of Dr Keith Rowley as Prime Minister.

However, Haynes denied there being any political plot afoot.

She said: “Our members are free to voice their opinions online and offline but we are a party committed to our procedures and so there is a process by which we select a political leader.”

Haynes said this process has not been initiated and therefore “everything else can be housed under rumour or mischief”.

UNC’s internal elections for political leader are due in 2021.
