Hadad not expecting any rush to retailers on Monday; says people do not have money to buy

The head of the Tobago Chamber of Commerce says people do not have any money and she is not expecting much when retail stores open on Monday.

Diane Hadad, in a GML interview, said many citizens are “hungry and unemployed” people and she believes that this will prevent any rush to retail businesses on Monday, as consumers simply do not have the money to buy.

Hadad said the pandemic has changed the culture of consumers, and the culture of going out and shopping and enjoying life is “subdued” at this time.

She added, “Consumers are in a lot of poverty right now and other than public servants who have been paid, there are many persons who are jobless and will not have disposable income and cannot pay their normal bills, and there’s no guarantee that people will have money to go outside and buy.”
