Guapo man detained for trying to set woman on fire

A 49-year-old Guapo man has been detained by police after he allegedly tried to set a woman on fire following on Sunday night.

Around 8:20pm on Sunday, 51-year-old Donna Marie Coltburst, of George Blake Trace, Parrylands Village, Guapo, was standing outside her home when the man came up to her, holding two lit flambeaux.

She told police he threatened to burn down her house. But, she was saved by a neighbour who came and took the flambeaux away from the man.

However, the suspect returned with a red gas container and began throwing the gasoline on Coltburst’s body, saying he would set her on fire.

Coltburst screamed and ran to the home of another neighbour.

The neighbours called the police and PCs Oudit and Jimdar responded. The officers found the man walking a short distance away.

The suspect is expected to be charged with throwing a noxious substance, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
