Actress Yara Shahidi, known for her roles in ‘black-ish’ and its college spinoff ‘grown-ish’, has inked an exclusive overall deal with ABC Studios.
Through her new production arm 7th Sun, Shahidi and her mother, Keri Shahidi, have signed an overall deal to highlight diverse and often underrepresented creators in the industry.
The deal will develop and produce scripted content for cable, streaming and more.
In a statement about the move, Shahidi said “I’m thrilled to be partnering with my home family, ABC Studios, in this exciting next chapter, alongside my family. It’s exciting to add our production company to the roster of my peers and mentors who are also actively committed to sharing meaningful stories.”
This overall deal marks an expansion in ABC’s continued support for Shahidi through her career.
Best known for her role as Zoey Johnson in the ABC hit series ‘black-ish’, Shahidi has gone on to star in her own successful spin-off, ‘grown-ish.’
Shahidi leveraged her star power into more than just the titular role, but also a spot executive producing the show, making her the youngest network producer yet.
Now renewed for its fourth season, ‘grown-ish’ was the No. 1 live action cable comedy series in 2019, and has maintained its title as Freeform’s buzziest comedy.
