Griffith responds: Rowley is T&T’s biggest mistake

Former Commissioner Gary Griffith has hit back at Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley.

Speaking last night, Dr Rowley said that the appointment of Griffith to the post of Police Commissioner is the “biggest mistake” he has ever made.

Rowley said his decision then was based on his belief that he should allow appointments of the best people the country had to offer for various roles, regardless of their political affiliations.

However, he cited the recently completed audit of the Firearms Department of the T&T Police Service saying that it makes for “very, very troublesome reading.”

In a scathing response, Griffith alleged Government interference in the operations of the TTPS.

He claimed that he was given a multi-million dollar budget and instructed by the Government to use the money to conduct investigations into political opponents.

Griffith added that Dr Rowley is the biggest mistake in Trinidad and Tobago’s history and said the Prime Minister’s comment is evidence of claims by former PNM leader Patrick Manning that Rowley was out of control when he doesn’t have his way.
