Gov’t ToSet Up Data Sharing Platform For Agencies Involved In Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force

Government is working on setting up a data sharing platform among the ten government agencies which are part of the anti-illicit trade task force.

Minister of Trade and Industry, Paula Gopee Scoon, said this country was recognised on account of its very notable efforts to tackle the issue of illicit trade including the actual establishment of the “National Action Plan to Combat Illicit Trade in Consumer Goods in Trinidad and Tobago.

Speaking during the question and answer period in the Senate on Tuesday, Minister Gopee Scoon, said the government intends to set up a platform locally.

The Trade Minister in response to a question from Opposition Senator, Jayanti Lutchmedial – on how many persons were charged or convicted of offences involving illicit trade to date – said there have been several raids by the police and action has been taken by the Inter Agency Task Force.
