Government’s COVID policies likely to affect future elections says analyst

Political analyst Rishi Maharaj says the Government’s policies regarding mandatory vaccination and its handling of the economy going forward are unlikely to be ignored by the electorate.

He made the comment while speaking with News Power Now.

Mr Maharaj was at the time commenting on an online article by former Indepdent Senator Martin Daly.

In the article on Wired 868, Mr Daly warned the Government that it should reflect carefully on how it manages the discontent brewing in the country.

The former Law Association President pointed to the Government’s handling of the mandatory vaccination for public servants and the lack of proper consultation or legislation to support their stance.

He added that to make matters worse, protesters have been tear-gassed, creating an additional catalyst for discontent.

Mr Maharaj agreed with Mr Daly that the political temperature in the country is not one to be ignored.

He warned that any failure to properly address discontent will not be wiped away by the 7-day memory Trinbagonians are often accused of having.
