Government Working To Improve T&T’s Score On Corruption Perception Index

A number of measures have been taken by the government relating to improving Trinidad and Tobago’s score when it comes to the Corruption Perception Index.

According to the Opposition, Trinidad and Tobago’s scored 41/100 on the Corruption Perception Index in 2020.

However, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young, said government is focusing on enacting and enforcing special purpose legislation which improves the ability of the authorities to fight and contain corruption in the public sector.

Minister Young said in the past year the government passed the Gambling, Gaming, and Betting Control Act 2021 which was enacted in August last year.

This was done to regulate an industry which had been flagged by the International Monetary Fund as a contributor in money laundering and corruption matters.
