Government Supports Nomination Of Erla Christopher To The Post Of Commissioner Of Police

The government puts its support behind Erla Harewood Christopher following her nomination by the Police Service Commission.

Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, is urging the Opposition, United National Congress, to do the same for her to serve in the Office of Commissioner of Police.

Dr Rowley piloted the private motion: Approve the notification of the President of the nomination by the Police Service Commission of Erla Harewood Christopher to the Office of Police Commissioner.

Dr Rowley read out the qualifications of Mrs Harewood Christopher who joined the TTPS after training started as a constable in the Central Division from 1982 to 1991.

She also served as a Sergeant and Assistant Superintendent of Police (Administration).

Dr Rowley noted that the PSC evaluated a number of applicants.

The Prime Minister called on the Opposition to support the appointment of a substantive Commissioner of Police and consider the positives which will come of this process.
