Government responsible for delayed sale of refinery assets

The OWTU’s Patriotic Energies said it is the government that is responsible for the delayed sale of the refinery assets.

On Tuesday morning, one of the company’s directors, Richard Lee, said they have been ready since late last year and continue to be baffled with the government’s statements.

On Monday the Finance Minister Colm Imbert announced that he gave Patriotic Energies until October 31 to close the deal.

But, Lee said it was not so.

He reminded members of the public that it’s been two years since Petrotrin was closed and with assets deteriorating urgent action is needed.

Lee revealed that their foreign partners are still very much interested.

Lee was one of the panelists of the OWTU Post Budget Forum held virtually on Tuesday morning.

He also weighed in on Government’s announcement to privatise gas stations warning that the decision would bring increased hardship on the population.
