Gonzales wants more efficient method of payment to pensioners after overcrowding at TTPost

Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales intends to make contact with the Social Development and Family Services Minister Donna Cox, to devise a more efficient method of payment to pensioners and others, to avoid the monthly issue of overcrowding and long lines outside the offices of TT Post.

TTPost, which falls under his purview, was forced to shut the doors at its lower St Vincent Street, Port-of-Spain branch on Tuesday, after scores of people turned up seeking their pension cheques and grants.

Senior Citizens’ Pension as well as Disability and Public Assistance Grants are usually paid on the first of every month.

Gonzales said this monthly convergence cannot continue, especially during the pandemic.

He is now pleading with people to comply with the regulations and not rush and stand close to each other.

TTPost was not the only location with long lines and overcrowding on Tuesday, as lines were also spotted outside some First Citizens and Republic Bank outlets, as well as supermarkets.
